The Spirit Prays Perfect Prayers

I’m from the Philippines, and have lived in Singapore since January 2011. I grew up in a religious family, attended Bible courses since high school and was baptised in Singapore in October 2011.

I desire to learn about God and to serve him. But when I was baptised, I felt that something was missing, I continued to attend church and prayed to God every day, but I still thought that some teachings I’d heard did not fit with what I’d read in the Bible.

In December 2012, a friend whom I hadn’t talked to for a long time called me and invited me to attend a New Creation Church service. I was a little hesitant at first, but obliged. The sermon caught my attention and it resonated with me.

I was so excited to attend service the next Sunday to feed on Pastor Joseph Prince’s teachings. When Pastor Prince started preaching on the gift of speaking in tongues, I thought to myself that I may not like this, but then everything he said was so clear and he explained it so well that I accepted what was taught.

When I went home, I prayed and asked God for the gift of speaking in tongues. I remembered Pastor Prince sharing how when we pray in the spirit, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us and we can pray about things we are unaware of. To illustrate, he gave an example of how a mother can be praying in tongues while she is doing her chores, not knowing that she was declaring God’s protection over her child at that very moment. Though I wondered how I would know this to be true, I brushed away my doubts and kept on praying in tongues.

On my way to work, I read a status update from my 22-year-old son who’s living in the Philippines. He posted that on his way home last night, he and a female friend were crossing the street when she was hit by a motorbike. The girl was injured and couldn’t stand. Then, that morning, he was in a vehicle when the driver suddenly hit the brakes. The person beside him hit a hard object and bled profusely but my son was fine.

I almost cried. I knew God had revealed to me the power of praying in tongues. Thank you Pastor Prince, you are really being used by God.

Winner Of Style: Weddings Beautiful Couple 2010 Contest

In March 2010, my wife, Berinda, and I submitted our application to join the Style: Weddings Beautiful Couple contest. By August, we did not receive any news from the organisers and thought that the competition was over. In September, we were notified that we were shortlisted for the contest. We were excited because we knew that God had a hand in it. I was supposed to go overseas for a work trip in October but my boss pushed my departure date to November. If not, I would not have been able to take part in the contest.

During the semi-finals, we had to go through an interview. The interviewer revealed that the prize was $15,000 worth of jewellery and vouchers. When I heard that, my heart rejoiced. I was not able to afford jewellery for Berinda during our wedding but now, I know that our heavenly Father is personally giving Berinda her wedding gift.

On 31 October 2010, we went for the finals. We were couple number five — the number of grace! During the styling session, none of the hairstylists wanted to attend to Berinda as she had short hair. In the end, the owner of the salon personally styled Berinda’s hair! Before it was our turn to go on stage, Berinda suggested that we pray. We prayed that every word that came out of our mouths would be guided by the Holy Spirit, revealing the beauty of Jesus to the audience.

On stage, we were asked to choose a random question from a fishbowl. Our question was, "How do you intend to keep the relationship strong after you're married?" I answered, "We love because God first loved us. And God is love. So I told Berinda that I will never love her out of my own effort, but I will only love her with the love of God. And when I look to God, it is He who gives me the strength to love Berinda." The microphone was then passed to Berinda. She expressed that she will not look to me for happiness, but her eyes will always be fixed on God, and that putting God in the centre of our relationship will make us a stronger couple. When we went offstage, I kept thinking that perhaps we should have said something more practical. But God's peace assured me that it was okay.

When it was time to reveal the winning couple, the judges came up and commented that they were eloquent, had chemistry and were very comfortable with each other. To our delight, Berinda and I won the competition! After the competition, one of the organisers shared with us that they almost did not select us for the semi-finals because we were married a little longer than the rest, but they kept coming back to our pictures and had to meet us. That was another confirmation that it was God who orchestrated the whole event. This is truly a year of restful increase. All glory to Jesus!

Jesus Healed Her Skin Rash

Prior to 2004, I did not have sensitive skin or any skin allergies. However, in 2004, a persistent rash came upon me. I saw three different doctors who diagnosed my condition as chronic urticarial (an itchy rash condition). Some people live with it for months or even years, and I was told that I might have to live with it for life!

Since then, I had to take oral medication daily to curb the condition. If I went without medication, red patches of rashes would appear and the itch would spread all over me.

I began confessing daily that Jesus had cleansed me and that His blood has made me righteously spotless, but nothing happened. Soon, I grew sick and tired of having to pop pills into my mouth as I did not want to be dependent on them.

One day, the Holy Spirit showed me that the root of this condition began with my thought life. I used to think that I had this infirmity because my blood was unclean!

Last year in 2011, I read a newspaper article about my condition. Somehow, I was inspired by the Spirit to keep the write-up and to declare and proclaim healing upon myself. Sometime later, it struck me that I had not taken my medication for over a month but my skin stayed rash-free. It was then that the visible manifestation and reality of God’s Word hit me — I had been healed to the fullest!

For the past seven years, I had to take medicine daily. But in the year of His crowned goodness, my hundredfold healing came! Words cannot describe how grateful I am to Him who did a perfect finished work in me! Praise the Lord!
