Possessing Family and Career Blessings

The year 2016 has indeed been a year where my husband and I possessed our possessions!

We had been believing God for the salvation of our parents for a number of years now. We were glad when both our mothers agreed to come to the Mid-Autumn Celebration service in September this year. My mother-in-law received Christ as her Saviour on the day itself while my mother was moved and has begun attending church.

We have also been believing God for a child for a year without success. I had been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome in my teenage years and never had regular menstruations. This year, on my birthday, when I happened to use a pregnancy test kit, it was good news! I had done this test many times before when my period was late but it had never been positive. Praise God for a wonderful birthday gift! We are now in our second trimester and are believing God for a champion baby.

I had also been praying for a number of years for a stable job that would allow me to grow and maximise my potential. In the middle of this year, I received two excellent job offers from reputable companies, and had the luxury of choosing between them. I am now flourishing in a new workplace which happens to be pro-family, and have colleagues who care for me. All glory to Jesus!

Double Restoration And Provision

Last year, in August 2015, we found out my wife Berinda was pregnant. However, the gynaecologist shared that the fetal development after eight weeks did not look good and was unusually slow. There was a 4mm cell with no heartbeat. Berinda also experienced bleeding throughout the pregnancy. During our visit to the gynaecologist on 30 August 2015, we were told that Berinda had a miscarriage.

We were devastated by the news, but our leaders in church ministered to us, prayed with us for God’s restoration and reminded us to have a good opinion of Him.

In September 2015, Pastor Prince prayed at the end of a service saying, “This time next year, you’ll be holding your miracle baby.” Berinda and I just held each other’s hands and said “Amen”. Our friends who knew about the miscarriage also texted us excitedly to stand in faith with us.

On 18 December 2015, Berinda found out she was pregnant. And on 6 February 2016, at our visit to the gynaecologist, we found out we were expecting twins! We knew in our hearts that it was God who had restored to us! Last year, the theme for our church was The Year of His Restoration. We were stunned and in awe by the double restoration even before the year ended!

We also want to share the style in which God give His good gifts. Berinda’s desire was to have natural childbirth for the twins. She started to lay hold of God’s Word and all His promises concerning childbirth. Her favourite verses were “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree’)” (Galatians 3:13) and “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

Our gynaecologist highly recommended a C-section because in many cases, even after the first twin is born via natural birth, the other twin might not be in the correct position and there would be a need to undergo an emergency C-section. Berinda and I discussed the matter, and for the safety of the twins, decided to fix a date for the C-section.

In June 2016, Pastor K E Mathews came up to congratulate us and he encouraged us to believe God for natural birth if that was our heart’s desire. This ignited Berinda’s faith to believe again.

On 23 July 2016, one month before the due date, Berinda’s water bag burst. Yet, her heart was at rest, and she even took time to shower and put on make-up before we went to the hospital. At the hospital, she delivered both babies quickly and naturally in less than an hour. It was a supernatural childbirth. The doctors were stunned by the speed of the delivery, and the fact that both twins were in the correct position.

God knew we were concerned about finances for the hospital bill, but our final cash outlay after government subsidies and Medisave deduction came up to over $300 when we were expecting to pay a four-figure sum!

From the restoration of babies, to the safe and natural delivery of the children, to the finances for the hospital bill, God truly did it all for us! Thank You Jesus for these amazing blessings.

A Miracle Baby

In 2014, I was pregnant and had a detailed scanning done at the 20th week of my pregnancy. The doctor told my husband and me that our baby had a short femur. As I was turning 40, I faced a very high risk of having complications during pregnancy. Thus, the doctor referred me to a specialist and they concluded that my baby was four weeks behind normal growth, meaning that his legs and arms looked like he was 16 weeks old instead of 20 weeks old — with the likelihood that he could be a dwarf!

To confirm this, the doctors suggested that I take a test which was invasive to both the adult and baby, to determine if my genes or my husband’s genes had a family history of dwarfism, and if my baby was really a dwarf. If the result was positive, my husband and I could then make a decision to keep or abort the baby.

We were devastated by the heartbreaking news as we had found out that I was pregnant on Christmas Day, and believed that our baby was a gift from God.

Finally, my husband and I decided to keep our baby and not go for further tests. We trusted that God would make this precious gift PERFECT for us and give us a normal child. We claimed His promises in Psalm 139:1 and Psalm 139:5 (NLT), “O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me… You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.

We continued to rest in the Lord and knew that as long as we rest in His love for us, we are protected from all harm. In August 2014, I went through an emergency caesarean birth. Miraculously, a healthy baby was born. He is currently 22 months old, a healthy and happy boy, blessed with brains and good looks. To God be all the glory!
