Double Restoration And Provision

Last year, in August 2015, we found out my wife Berinda was pregnant. However, the gynaecologist shared that the fetal development after eight weeks did not look good and was unusually slow. There was a 4mm cell with no heartbeat. Berinda also experienced bleeding throughout the pregnancy. During our visit to the gynaecologist on 30 August 2015, we were told that Berinda had a miscarriage.

We were devastated by the news, but our leaders in church ministered to us, prayed with us for God’s restoration and reminded us to have a good opinion of Him.

In September 2015, Pastor Prince prayed at the end of a service saying, “This time next year, you’ll be holding your miracle baby.” Berinda and I just held each other’s hands and said “Amen”. Our friends who knew about the miscarriage also texted us excitedly to stand in faith with us.

On 18 December 2015, Berinda found out she was pregnant. And on 6 February 2016, at our visit to the gynaecologist, we found out we were expecting twins! We knew in our hearts that it was God who had restored to us! Last year, the theme for our church was The Year of His Restoration. We were stunned and in awe by the double restoration even before the year ended!

We also want to share the style in which God give His good gifts. Berinda’s desire was to have natural childbirth for the twins. She started to lay hold of God’s Word and all His promises concerning childbirth. Her favourite verses were “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree’)” (Galatians 3:13) and “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

Our gynaecologist highly recommended a C-section because in many cases, even after the first twin is born via natural birth, the other twin might not be in the correct position and there would be a need to undergo an emergency C-section. Berinda and I discussed the matter, and for the safety of the twins, decided to fix a date for the C-section.

In June 2016, Pastor K E Mathews came up to congratulate us and he encouraged us to believe God for natural birth if that was our heart’s desire. This ignited Berinda’s faith to believe again.

On 23 July 2016, one month before the due date, Berinda’s water bag burst. Yet, her heart was at rest, and she even took time to shower and put on make-up before we went to the hospital. At the hospital, she delivered both babies quickly and naturally in less than an hour. It was a supernatural childbirth. The doctors were stunned by the speed of the delivery, and the fact that both twins were in the correct position.

God knew we were concerned about finances for the hospital bill, but our final cash outlay after government subsidies and Medisave deduction came up to over $300 when we were expecting to pay a four-figure sum!

From the restoration of babies, to the safe and natural delivery of the children, to the finances for the hospital bill, God truly did it all for us! Thank You Jesus for these amazing blessings.

Unmerited Favour in Her Studies and Work

About 10 years ago, I had a mid–career change of jobs. I was apprehensive and prayed for wisdom to make the right decision. Finally, after much prayer, I received a word from the Lord regarding 1 Thessalonians 5:24, “He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it”. Believing that the Lord is faithful, I sent out my application and it was accepted against all odds as most of the other applicants were all former heads of departments. I was grateful to the Lord for this unmerited favour.

After a year on the job, I pursued a Master’s Degree programme as I felt rather inadequate with my existing skills. It was a big step as I had graduated 20 years ago and much had changed. I had a tough time and prayed fervently for supernatural favour as I struggled to juggle my family, job and studies. Fortunately, I am blessed with a supportive spouse who prayed and helped me through this time. I prayed for grace to master the IT skills that I needed to retrieve materials such as research papers and journals.

I also prayed that I would pass and not get thrown out in the middle of the programme. To my amazement, I passed with high distinctions and was the top student. I knew that this had nothing to do with my own efforts. It was the work of our mighty God, who never fails when we throw ourselves at His feet and depend totally on Him.

In spite of these successes, I faced many challenges at my workplace which made me question my decision to switch jobs. I cried out to the Lord and read Psalm 91:15, “He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honour him.” At that time, I found it hard to believe the promise in that verse as I was very distressed.

Soon after, a friend told me that she was resigning from her job and asked if I wanted to be transferred there as she was doing the same job as myself. It was a refreshing change and I thanked God for it.

In my new workplace, God blessed me tremendously as I continued to rely on Him daily. The job was emotionally draining and I often felt like giving up because I saw little success in what I was doing. But the Lord lifted me up with an unexpected blessing when I was given the Excellence Service Award in the department. And recently, I could barely contain my gratitude to my heavenly Father when I received the PS21 Service Excellence Award and PS21 Distinguished Service Award. I know that none of this was based on my self–efforts, but it was the result of God’s unmerited favour and grace that Pastor Prince has been preaching about!

Remarkable Recovery From Virus Infection

In March 2012, during the first school semester break, my daughter, Megan, who was in Secondary 3, was selected to participate in an overseas learning programme in Australia.

After she got back, she came down with a mild fever and missed two days of school. However, what was initially thought to be just mild fever became something so serious that we, as a family, were not prepared for.

Her fever persisted and she continued to experience fatigue and backache. The doctor then ordered her to go for tests to check on her liver function and blood count level. Thank God for wisdom in the attending doctor as I was still dismissing the situation as just another usual fever episode.

On the following day, I received a call from the clinic saying that my daughter had to be admitted to the hospital as the test results were very bad.

Usually, a healthy liver would have an alanine aminotransferase (ALAT) serum reading of around 5 to 30 micromole per litre. But my daughter’s liver test results came back with a whopping 561 micromole per litre, which was more than 10 times the healthy level. To be exact, it was 18.7 times more.

She was admitted to the hospital on 22 March 2012 where they ran a battery of tests on her. After three days, the doctor was still unable to give a clear diagnosis of my daughter’s condition as blood culture test results would only be ready in another couple more days.

Meanwhile, my daughter’s ALAT serum reading managed to drop to around 200 micromole per litre. Though it was still above the acceptable range, the doctor acceded to our request to have my daughter discharged on the condition that she goes for her blood test every week.

Nine days after her discharge, it was confirmed that my daughter had contracted a nasty infection known as Epstein–Barr Virus (EB Virus).

This virus usually attacks the healthy liver, resulting in fever, extreme weakness of body and jaundice. The patient will also experience discomfort and abdominal pain.

My daughter suffered from all of the symptoms and the subsequent weekly blood tests results indicated an atrociously high ALAT serum of more than 1,500 micromole per litre. She was then admitted to the hospital for a second time.

As parents, one could only imagine the kind of anguish and predicament that we were in. But this was when all the teachings we had received through Pastor Prince’s ministry were put to test.

The circumstances forced us to rely on God’s grace to guard our hearts and minds. It wasn’t just about the illness we were battling with. My daughter was also anxious about her studies and 10 weeks of lessons missed.

One would have imagine how badly damaged her liver was at this time with ALAT serum readings in the region of 1,500 to 1,800 micromole per litre. Health studies told us that she might end up suffering from chronic fatigue and would take up to a year to regain her full energy.

Thank God that our Abba Father has the final say! Despite the ridiculously high readings, we had His unshakeable peace. We continued to believe that healing is our daughter’s blood–bought right because of the finished work of Jesus at Calvary.

Youth ministry pastor, Pastor Daniel Chong, also came to the hospital to pray and encouraged us to count on Daddy God for our daughter’s complete healing and restoration.

Praise God that He has the authority and power to change our circumstances! All glory to His name! My daughter did not suffer from any chronic fatigue. Instead, she made a remarkable recovery and was given a clean bill of health in early June. She also made it to the annual youth camp two weeks later in Malaysia!

God’s unclouded favour continued to rain upon my daughter as she found favour with her school’s principal and teachers. Her teachers set aside time when the new school term began in July to help her catch up with the studies that she had missed in the 10 weeks that she was absent from school. What an awesome God we have!

In the following year, my daughter sat for her O–Levels examinations and she did well.

In addition, God also intervened and we were able to pay off more than 98 percent of my daughter’s hefty hospitalisation bill through an insurance payout. This was a huge relief for us and we are still thankful to Daddy God’s timely provision.
