A Miracle Baby

In 2014, I was pregnant and had a detailed scanning done at the 20th week of my pregnancy. The doctor told my husband and me that our baby had a short femur. As I was turning 40, I faced a very high risk of having complications during pregnancy. Thus, the doctor referred me to a specialist and they concluded that my baby was four weeks behind normal growth, meaning that his legs and arms looked like he was 16 weeks old instead of 20 weeks old — with the likelihood that he could be a dwarf!

To confirm this, the doctors suggested that I take a test which was invasive to both the adult and baby, to determine if my genes or my husband’s genes had a family history of dwarfism, and if my baby was really a dwarf. If the result was positive, my husband and I could then make a decision to keep or abort the baby.

We were devastated by the heartbreaking news as we had found out that I was pregnant on Christmas Day, and believed that our baby was a gift from God.

Finally, my husband and I decided to keep our baby and not go for further tests. We trusted that God would make this precious gift PERFECT for us and give us a normal child. We claimed His promises in Psalm 139:1 and Psalm 139:5 (NLT), “O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me… You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.

We continued to rest in the Lord and knew that as long as we rest in His love for us, we are protected from all harm. In August 2014, I went through an emergency caesarean birth. Miraculously, a healthy baby was born. He is currently 22 months old, a healthy and happy boy, blessed with brains and good looks. To God be all the glory!

Protected From Shattered Glass Door

On the morning of Thursday, 26 November 2015, I received a call from my staff informing me that a glass–sliding door in my office had shattered and collapsed when he came to work that day. Needless to say, I felt perturbed hearing to this.

As I made my way to my office, I tried my best not to worry or be in fear. So I put on some praise music in the car as I drove.

I also remembered Pastor Lim Lian Neo’s message from the previous Sunday which was about giving praise to God in the midst of our circumstances. And the day before, I read a devotional about keeping our joy and confessing our joy in the Lord.

When I arrived at my office, I was taken aback to see the extent of the damage. The handle of the glass panel fell against the wall and the impact of the force had even caused some glass fragments to be embedded into the partition wall, which was at the entrance to my room. I also noticed a wood fragment on a glass panel nearby which came from the bench adjacent to the panel.

When we checked the CCTV footage, I found out that the incident happened on the previous day at about 6.43pm, just shortly after I had left the office. When I discovered the timing of the incident, I could only praise God that I wasn’t around when it happened. Sometimes, I would stay in the office till 7pm. But on the day the glass panel shattered, I had left at about 6pm to go to the gym.

Praise God for His protection!

Restful Success In Children’s Studies

In 2014, my three children ended the year with poor academic results. So one of my three prayer requests in 2015 was for my children to have supernatural and restful success in their studies especially when my eldest son would go through streaming and my second daughter would be taking her Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE).

I started the year with new resolutions and schedules for my children hoping to instil discipline and to help them in their studies. As a mother, I believed that that was the most practical way I could help them.

However, as the year progressed, revision sessions between me and my children turned into disappointments, frustrations and angry words. The mid–year exam results for my children were an utter dismay. I was told by the form teacher that my oldest was at the verge of staying back or falling into the normal stream. At the same time, my 12–year–old might need to repeat her PSLE.

I was exhausted and came to the end of myself. All the efforts I had put in did not result in any improvement at all. Instead, these efforts strained my relationship with my children.

On 7 June 2015, Pastor Prince preached a message titled Live Life Loved by The Shepherd. Through this message, I had a revelation that the Lord loved me and my children, and wanted to take care of us. I decided to rest in the Lord and He showed me in Zechariah 4:6–7 that the breakthrough in my children’s studies would not come about by force nor by my own strength but by HIS GRACE! I was so thrilled I shared the verses with my family so we could believe in His promise in the Word together.

I also started to partake of the Holy Communion with my children every morning and declared blessings over them. I stopped all the revision activities and consciously refrained from speaking out of worry. It was not easy and when I got worried, I would listen to the sermon again and again.

All glory and praise be to Jesus who loves us! My oldest son passed his final exams and was promoted to Secondary 3. My youngest came in 4th in class and jumped two classes forward. My 12–year–old passed her PSLE and will move on to Secondary 1.

I am grateful for what He has done and I believe with all my heart that He will see us through the coming year and many more years to come. Thank you, Pastor Prince for your timely message. I am thankful for you and New Creation Church. Be blessed!
