A Healing Touch In Batam

On Saturday, 28 September 2013, Pastor Lawrence Lim and 43 volunteers from New Creation Church brought a healing touch to Batam, Indonesia. The team, comprising doctors and medical professionals, set up a free clinic at the office of World Foundation For Women.

Though the afternoon heat was grueling, it did little to deter the locals from coming. The clinic continued to receive a steady stream of patients and 372 people were treated on that day!

Those who turned up were slum dwellers who once had high hopes of making a living in the bustling city of Batam, Indonesia. However, as days passed, reality hit hard. Finding a job wasn’t as easy as it seemed. Soon, poverty drove them to the outskirts of Batam where they sought shelter in run-down sheds.

Lenni stayed at one of these slums. When our volunteers first set eyes on her, they could sense the pain and uneasiness she was suffering from. Supporting her stiffened back with her hands, she waited patiently for her turn to be called. Finally, for the first time in her life, she could seek proper treatment for her chronic back pain.

“I have been having this pain for many years. I wasn’t able to see a doctor because we need an identification pass to apply for subsidies. I couldn’t afford paying 50,000 Rupiah (S$6) for the pass. But thankfully your team is here. Thank you for helping the poor like me,” said Lenni.

One of the patients even received Christ during her consultation with Doctor Raymond Lim.

“This lady happened to be assigned to our station and our interpreter, Pamela, offered to pray for her. Seeing that her heart was opened, we shared with her the good news and said the salvation prayer with her,” shared Doctor Raymond, “It was an awesome moment. We know that one day all her medication will run out but with Jesus, she will never be in lack.”
