On Saturday, 5 October 2013, 120 varsity students from The Zone, our church’s youth ministry, arrived early at Shuqun Primary School. Their mission? To befriend children under the school’s financial assistance scheme, and bring them on a trip to S.E.A. Aquarium.
Our volunteers arriving early for their morning briefing.
“Frankly, I was a little worried at the beginning,” said Puay Sim Yee, an undergraduate at Singapore Institute of Management. “I had been assigned to a male student and I wasn’t sure how to interact with him.”
The same sense of anxiety was felt by other youths. But soon, they discovered how needless their worry had been when they saw God’s favour making up for their shortcomings.
Saying “Hi” with our fingers.
“Though it took a while for my young buddy to open up, we clicked really well after that. I believe it was the Lord who gave us common topics to talk about!” shared Sim Yee.
Yes, we did it!
At the end of the trip, the youths gained a new perspective of faith.
“I am so blessed to see the children filled with so much joy and happiness,” said Samuel Lee, a student at Singapore Management University. “This trip showed me that I can find joy in everything I do because He is always with me. Despite what my hectic school term, I know that God had already gone ahead and paved the way for me. I am blessed indeed.”
