Home is where the heart is, and home is where fun and play is best experienced.
With the tagline adopted from Isaiah 58:12 “Rebuilder of Walls, Restorer of Homes”, 200 blessed youths from The Zone (Youth) Ministry turned up at Macpherson Primary School at the wake of the dawn to prepare for a family carnival. Held on 23 November 2013, the community event was meant to bless 250 children and their parents through fun and play.
Led by team leaders Ariel Lim and Jodie Koh, the youths prepared song items, game stations and free-and-easy activities such as Henna and face painting.
Kids and their families were welcomed with boards that carried affirmative messages.
A time of fun and play for the kids and their parents.
Everyone was eager to participate in the games and showed good sportsmanship. Other highlights of the day included balloon giveaways and free pop-corn and candy floss.
Sweet treats for everyone.
These children were recipients of the school’s Financial Assistance Scheme and with most parents spending a large amount of time working to support the family, this rare occasion served as a treat to the busy lifestyle.
Our youths carried out all tasks no matter how small with great effort.
“Not much time is spent with my family. This was a good opportunity to spend time as a family together,” shared Kris, a father who is a full-time Gurkha.
The youths stepped out of their weekend routines to be a blessing to others. By the end of the event, many felt the love of God present throughout the day.
Janna Sim, 19, one of the youths from Arrow ministry shared, “These families are not well to do. Time with their kids was lost to working all day so that they could support their families. This whole event showed me the love that these parents have for their kids. From there, I was reminded of how our Father loves us.”
As for Axel Ng, 21, the National Service man enthused, “I enjoyed seeing my team members do stuff that seemed small but mattered to the kids. They would purposely lose in the game so that the families could catch up!”
This event is indeed a testimony of God’s love in action through His beloved children. Mr. Chong Chin Hong, vice-principal of Macpherson Primary School even complimented on the sincerity and enthusiasm displayed by our youths. He said, “Seeing the youths giving up their time to contribute and love the community, gave me faith for our next generation! Your youths are simply different!”
