On Saturday, 2 August 2014, three teams of volunteers from the Outreach Ministry brought a group of 62 primary students from New Town Primary School to the Gardens by the Bay where they visited the Cloud Forest and Flower Domes.
Being under the school’s financial assistance scheme, many of the children had never been to Gardens by the Bay. “The event is not only fun but made me so happy!” shared Natasha with a big smile and sparkling eyes, during one of the activity sessions.
“Cloud forest is so cool!” exclaimed Lina as she strolled excitedly through the different domes with her friends, armed with a polaroid camera ready to shoot at anything and everything.
In this activity, the children were asked to take pictures of their surroundings and of their friends. Ai Lim, the game master thought the activity not only provided the children with an opportunity to pick the location, poses and company in their polaroid shot but also gave them a chance to record their time spent at the Gardens.
“I felt that the children were impacted by the love of God shown to them. When a student felt cold, Raymond would lend his jacket to the kid. Vania took the initiative to take photos for the team and helped the kids with their poems and worksheets. Cindy was also extremely caring towards a student who was not feeling well,” shared Lily Teo, a team leader.
Indeed, not only were the activities organised fun and interactive, the volunteers also learnt from their buddies, and lastly, the love shown by the volunteers let every child experience the love of Christ. We are indeed blessed to be a blessing!
Time for a break! Our volunteers taking a rest with their little buddies after a walk in the garden. Helping kids with their worksheets. A myriad of fun activities!
Time for a group shot!
