On 28 March 2015, Pastor Lawrence Lim and 25 volunteers from our Outreach Ministry visited the Silver Ace drop-in centre for the elderly at Lengkok Bahru. This NTUC Eldercare Co-operative Limited was set up in 1997 to provide quality and affordable eldercare services in the local community.
A total of 40 elderly from low-income families participated. The event kicked off with our volunteers singing a song together with the beneficiaries. Along with singing and clapping, our volunteers also encouraged the group to mingle and get to know each other.
Art and craft tables were set up for beneficiaries to make cards for their loved ones. One beneficiary was delighted that she had the opportunity to make a drawing for her husband, and as an act of love, both husband and wife showed appreciation for each other by exchanging love messages through their cards.
At the photo booths specially set up for the elderly to have fun, photos were printed on the spot and presented to them as a keepsake. After a hearty lunch together with our volunteers, goodie bags were given out to bless the beneficiaries before they headed home with smiles on their faces.
Kiyeon Kim, a first-time volunteer shared, “I was not sure what to expect, however, the elderly aunties in the group were so friendly and chatty that I spent the whole time talking and lending a listening ear to them. They were so delighted just having someone to speak to that they kept asking when we will be coming back. I’m glad that I was able to be their friend.”
