From 10 to 13 June 2015, 31 volunteers in our Outreach Ministry stayed in Batam, Indonesia, conducting daily Bible lessons, games and spending quality time with 180 students in Sehati School, ministering to them and their teachers.
Loving the precious children and bringing joy to them through fun games and other meaningful activities.
Working with three local pastors, our team of volunteers scheduled 20 home visits to families who live in the squatters and slums of Batam. They also took time to encourage and strengthen the faith of believers in the village.
“During one of the home visits, we met a family going through a dire financial situation,” shared Jeremy, recalling a home visit his team made. “They were very worried and fearful, and cried as they spoke.”
The head of the house had quit his job six months earlier to start a pig farm but business had been bad, and he could not bring home enough money to feed his wife and four daughters.
“We shared with them about the anointing oil, and asked if they would like to receive the gift of tongues. They said yes! The whole family received the gift! We also asked the father to pray over the family as the head of the household, which he did, in Bahasa Indonesia. The family was very touched and everyone was crying uncontrollably. We really felt the presence of God in that house,” Jeremy said.
The team also reached out to 30 orphans from two orphanages, inviting them out for a day of fun. Starting in the morning with games and Bible action songs, they entertained the children with a humorous skit of the prodigal son parable, and taught them about the love and acceptance of God the Father.
The children were also taken out for lunch at a fast-food restaurant and were delightedly surprised with the opportunity to buy an item of their choosing from the mall.
Praying for the orphans and ministering God’s love to them.
