On 28 May 2016, Pastor Louis Teng and volunteers from our church joined 58 residents and staff of The New Charis Mission (TNCM) for their morning devotion. TNCM operates a halfway house, providing a holistic rehabilitation programme for ex-drug offenders to help them to reintegrate into society.
The devotion began with a refreshing time of praise and worship. This was followed by a sermon preached in English by Pastor Louis, which was simultaneously translated into Mandarin by a volunteer from our Chinese Ministry. In his message, Pastor Louis shared about God’s restoration from the Bible and affirmed attendees of the Lord’s unconditional love for them. After his sharing, he ministered to them through two Hokkien songs before the Worship team presented a special song item.
At the end of the session, each resident received a book gift for their reading programme. Our church also contributed a collection of grace-based books and sermon DVDs to TNCM’s library to encourage residents in their walk with God.
Being a part of the outreach event has been a blessing to our volunteers as well. Tricia Chew, an administrator, shared how the meaningful session reminded her of God’s goodness in her own life. “It was a privilege to serve today. As I hear the precious testimonies shared, I am reminded of how the Lord delivered me from a delinquent lifestyle years ago — only the Lord is able to transform and restore us, and give us beauty for ashes!”
