I picked up smoking when I started my first job at 14 years of age. My smoking habit got really bad, and I was smoking three packets of cigarettes a day.
As I was working long hours, smoking seemed to be a time of rest for me. Later, I went through a series of retrenchments and change of jobs. Finally, I decided to be self-employed.
Subsequently, I met my wife. I did not have enough money to get married then as I was in debt and did not have a regular income. Eventually, I went back to full-time employment to save up for our marriage.
We were not believers at that time. Once, we attended a church and felt judged after being told that the church elders would assess us to see if we were fit for baptism.
One day, a friend invited us to New Creation Church at Marina Bay Sands Ballrooms. Throughout the worship and sermon, tears kept flowing down my face. I was touched.
Both my wife and I decided that this is the church for us. We got baptised in 2014, and in 2016, after dating for six years, we got married. By God’s grace, we got great deals for our banquet and wedding packages. With the little that we had, God made it possible.
Then, just before Christmas in 2017, my wife asked me if I was willing to quit smoking for her. I told her that I would try again—this time with God. I asked God to give me the strength to stop smoking and take away my memory of smoking.
I also kept declaring that I am the righteousness of God in Christ. I have been free from smoking for almost a year now. Praise God.
I would like to thank Pastor Prince for preaching the true gospel which has changed my life, and I am leaning more and more on God every day, knowing that I can't do anything without Him.
