Reconciled with estranged son

I am a mother of two boys who are now young adults. I had always been the disciplinarian in the family, while my husband was the peacemaker.

But ever since my husband passed away, there has been no middleman between my sons and me whenever we argued. I have especially struggled with my oldest son, with whom I’ve had the most conflicts. For years, we would argue about his decisions and choices.

A few months ago, we had another clash, and it resulted in my son disconnecting from me. We did not talk or see each other, and we spoke hurtful words that crushed each other’s spirits.

During those months of estrangement, I reached the end of myself. I have been a born-again believer since the 1980s, but I hadn’t really walked in the Spirit, as I had depended on my self-efforts all these years. So, I cried to God and surrendered my son to Him.

In the days that followed, my hunger to feed on God’s Word was stirred up. I listened to Pastor Prince’s teachings on rest. When I read the book of Ruth, the part where Naomi told Ruth
to “sit still” came alive to me, and I trusted that Jesus was at work redeeming my situation.

On 27 October 2024, as I was about to settle down for bed, I went on YouTube to watch New Creation Church’s online service. That day, Pastor Darren was sharing about Pastor Prince’s latest Study Bible. Towards the end, he prayed for parents and for God to repair our relationships with our children. I broke down in tears and felt the love of God.

 A week passed and I received a message from my son tellingme that he misses me a ton and that he has been hoping for a reconciliation. That was the answer to Pastor Darren’s prayer. The results of Jesus’ work are far better than the results of my self-efforts.

Thank you for your ministry, Pastor Prince. Your pastors are used by the Lord God to be a blessing.
