Chinese New Year Celebrations 2017
With the festive mood in the air, the church came together as a family to celebrate Chinese New Year over special English services on Sunday, 29 January 2017.
The service opened with a Chinese New Year song before entering into a glorious time of praise and worship, accompanied by the melodious overtones of a guzheng. It was followed by a Chinese medley and a special English interpretation of a popular Mandarin classic which reminded us of God’s awesome love.
A moving testimony video which was previously shown at our Mid-Autumn Celebration event in 2016 was also shown during the English services today. In it, Kenn C, a well-known music arranger and producer, with his wife Frelason experienced restoration and freedom from depression after they kept on listening to the gospel of grace.
Right after the video, our singers and musicians along with Kenn, presented “祢是我家 (You Are My Home)”, a heartwarming song specially written by New Creation Worship. The lyrics tell the story of a person who sought fulfilment through many things in life, but finally concludes that Jesus is his redemption and hope. Pastor Mark Ng from our Chinese Ministry then took to the stage, sharing how God has reconciled us to Him through the finished work of His Son. He also encouraged us to always see Jesus as our good Shepherd, and to look to Him for our wholeness and provision.
After the sermon, Pastor Mark led the congregation to partake of the Holy Communion as a family, reminding believers that Jesus has paid for our healing and forgiveness through His sacrifice on the cross. He then closed the service with a prayer of blessing over the church.
Over at our Chinese Ministry, the congregation celebrated Chinese New Year at a combined Hokkien and Mandarin service. They enjoyed pre-service games, exchanged Chinese New Year greetings, and worshipped the Lord together. In her message, Pastor Christina Wee shared about how we can rest in the Lord, who is our very present help in times of need.
